Congratulations to the NCAA Women's Rowing Champions

New - Exclusive JAMCO pre-race analyses of the Division I - I Eight Grand Final and Petite Final races on Sunday.

Division I Preview

The nation's top 16 ranked Division I Women's Eights according to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches most recent poll will all be at Nationals this weekend. However, these end of season rankings underwent a real shake and bake last week. Season long #1 Princeton dropped to #4, following its loss toYale's Bulldogs at Eastern Sprints. Yale's victory propelled it from #6 to #2, just behind UC Berkeley's undefeated lady Bears, who moved from #2 to #1. Ohio State, with its May 15th victory over Tennessee, Virginia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State in that order at the Aramark Central Region Championships in Oak Ridge pushed it from #4 to the #3 slot. Previous #3 Michigan State slid to # 14, and previous #7 Michigan to #12. Tennessee's good showing at Aramark moved it from #11 to #6. Brown University, with its close third place at Eastern Sprints (only 1 second behind second place Princeton) moved Brown up from #8 to #5, and dropped Harvard (fourth at Sprints) from its previous #5 down to #9. Stanford, with its gutty second place at PAC-10s, barely holding off third place USC by 0.2 seconds, moved Stanford from #10 to #8 and USC from #13 to #10. With all these late season movements, it looks like a true free for all in Sacramento among Division I eights. At the very least, we can expect furious racing by one bunch of ladies determined to regain stature suddenly lost, and another bunch just as determined to protect what they gained in final regular season strokes.

Division II Preview

Rankings for the Division II Eights are in stark contrast to Division I, with Western Washington University the overwhelming choice all season as the #1 women's crew in that division. In further contrast yet, are Division III's very close rankings, with Trinity, Ithaca and Smith now clustered together at the top in that order, but having traded those places frequently throughout the season.

Color Coding — Real time movements by crews during each 500 meter interval are highlighted by different colors. Gold (yellow) crews are closing on the leader in the current 500. Silver (light blue) crews are closing on the second place crew, but falling further behind the leader. Bronze (orange) crews are closing on the third place crew, but falling further behind the leader and the second place crews. White crews are falling further behind all three leading crews. Quite often, when a crew turns gold, it takes the lead in the next 500.
