Observers noted that the finish line flag did not drop when Harvard went through as the winner. Harvard's boat was about a length past the line when the finish flag was lowered. Since the official timer is in the launch following the crews, and stops his watch for the winner when the flag is first lowered, observers believe the official winning time in the first repechage is about 3 to 4 seconds slower than reported. Harvard, Syracuse, and Ohio State advance to the semi-finals. The rest go to the third-level final. |
