USA Eight Wins Gold at 1974 World Championships
Under the guidance of Coach Al Rosenberg, who also coached Vesper's 1964 Olympic Gold
medal eight, the USA National Team eight pushed through a tightly packed field of eights
after the 1000 meter mark at the 1974 World Championships in Lucerne to win the Gold
medal. The first 3 crews from the USA, Great Britain and New Zealand all finished within
1.5 seconds of each other. The members of this eight, from bow to stern, were Ken Brown,
Tim Mickelson, Mike Vespoli, John Everett, Mark Norelius, Dick Cashin, Hugh Stevenson,
Alan Shealy at stroke, and cox David Weinberg.
