2000 Pac-10 Rowing Championships
Prediction for Varsity Women's Eight Final
May 14, 2000
Only the first 1000 meters from this morning's heats are being mixed here in this
pre-race analysis. Today Cal's first 500 meter time was 2 seconds faster than Washington's
and they were in separate heats in calm conditions and neither one was pushed. By
contrast, in their dual race 2 weeks ago in similar flat conditions at Redwood Shores,
Cal's first 500m time was 0.12 seconds faster than Washington's and they were essentially
even at the 1000. It was in the 3rd 500m interval that Washington moved out on Cal. The
question for this afternoon's final is whether Cal has found new first 500m speed
sufficient to give it a significant lead over Washington that Cal can then use to hold
Washington off in the 3rd and 4th 500 meter intervals.
All times reported are this morning's heat splits for the first 1000 meters only.
