Australian Rowing Championships
Men's Lightweight Double Sculls
Final - Saturday March 11, 2000

Code       Crew Scullers
HUO HUON/NEPEAN/NSWIS Karl Parker, Shane Broad
CAN CANBERRA/TOOWONG       Bruce Hick, Haimish Karrasch
TOR TORRENS Mark Sparnon, Marco Lippis
SYD SYDNEY/UNI OF NSW Tim Hughes, Michael McCormick
BAN BANKS Sam Brown, Paul Jones
HON HONG KONG SPORTS Sing-Yan Lo, Kam-Chi Lui

This final looks like a victory for HUO, which is led by Karl Parker, Australia's lightweight sculler at the 1999 World Championships. Second and third places appear to be a toss-up between the veteran international competitors in the Canberra boat and the Torrens crew, with a slight edge to Canberra. These predictions are based on times in the heats for this event, in which 3 crews qualified from each heat and things were pretty well settled by the 1000m mark for qualifiers. Thus the reliability of the splits in the heats as far a predictions are concerned is quite questionable beyond the 1000m mark in those heats. It will be interesting to see if Parker's boat can unseat Canberra's hold on Australia's lightweight double representative, as the heat times predict may be possible.

The members of these crews who have appeared at World Championships and Olympics in lightweight events are as follows.
