Men's Double Scull - Final
Saturday, August 28, 1999

Note: We do not have FISA lane assignments yet for this final, but have placed crews by pairs according to which were the winners, which were 2nd and which were 3rd into lanes 3/4, 2/5 or 1/6. We will not change these assignments even when the FISA lanes are published, because it does not affect our predictions at all.

Pre-race Analysis: Although a gold medal is not in much doubt here for   SLO, the silver and bronze are another matter and definitely up for grabs. If NOR can establish its predicted lead for silver at 1500 meters, and then stop challenges to that quest in the last 500 meters, which should come from HUN, FRA, GER and DEN, then NOR should feel good about its effort. One caution, however, is that NOR should not blow itself out in the early part of the last 500 meters trying to close what may be an insurmountable distance between itself and SLO at that point. If that should happen, then HUN with its blazing fast last 500 could take NOR's silver away in a blink. Likewise, if GER overcomes its predicted tendency to fall off pace in the last 500, it could do the same thing to NOR under those circumstances. The call, however, is still "SLO for gold" [a clear contradiction of terms], NOR for silver and HUN breaking through for the bronze.
