Note: We do not have FISA lane assignments yet for this final, but have placed crews by pairs according to which were the winners, which were 2nd and which were 3rd into lanes 3/4, 2/5 or 1/6. We will not change these assignments even when the FISA lanes are published, because it does not affect our predictions at all.
Pre-race Analysis: CRO is the clear favorite for the gold medal, leading all the way. The drama will be played out for FRA, AUS and GER, who essentially will be even with each other during the entire first 1500 meters. Talk about a test of nerves! FRA has the fastest finishing 500 among them, so give FRA the silver medal. Also, GER seems to have enough speed over the last 1000 meters to overcome a slight lead by AUS over GER at the halfway mark, so give GER the bronze. AUS can get the bronze if can cut off GER's move in the 3rd 500 meters, because AUS has about the same speed as GER has in the last 500, and can hold GER off in that last 500 if AUS goes into the last interval with a lead.
