In this case, though, it appears that it will be very close between Harvard, Michigan State, Dartmouth and University of Massachusetts, particularly for 1000 meters. The third 500 meter interval is critical. Expect Harvard to make a move on the field here. U Mass cannot let them go and MSU and DAR must bear down here also. Expect MSU to be very strong in the end, despite lack of indication this morning in that regard. Possible finish order: Harvard, MSU, U.Mass and Dar, with others trailing, but first 4 too close to call based on this morning's results.

Look for Wisconsin to take the early lead, dogged by USC, Oregon State, Virginia and Boston University. The other crews may fall off the pace in the early going. All of the lead crews must watch for a move by Virginia in the 3rd 500 meter interval. USC's crew seemed to let off significantly after 500meters in the heat and should be right with Virginia based on past performances. Still the possible result in order of finish is Virginia, USC, Boston U, Oregon State or Wisconsin with 3rd though 5th being a toss-up and with Davis in there, close, but still probably 6th.
