The top three crews in this race will progress to Sunday's finals and the others to the petite finals.

Pre-race Analysis

Except for Washington winning by a length or less, this race is billed to be one wild affair in the last 1000 meters, if these crews' performances in Friday's heats are any indication. The heat times of the first 5 crews (Washington, Michigan, Harvard, California and Michigan State - in that order at the finish line) show them all overlapped - get out the finish line camera and clean the lens real well. Also, the morning splits indicate Michigan, Harvard and Michigan Michigan State may go down the course virtually even with each other at every 500 meter mark, each vying for that critical 3rd place ticket to the finals. Also, though California seems likely to have a reasonable grip on 2nd place with 500m to go, the splits show the 3 crews behind them moving through in the last 500, dropping Cal to 5th if it is not real careful. No prediction here, other than Washington the winner.
