Women's Eight - Final
Sunday, August 29, 1999

Note: As of the time of this prediction, the actual lane assignments for the Women's 8+ A Final have not been announced. We only know the crews to be assigned to lanes 3/4, 2/5 and 1/6 and will have to adjust to actual lanes within these pairings when FISA provides them. Neverthless, the prediction presented here will not change.

Pre-race Analysis: Expect ROM to steadily increase its lead to one (+) length over the entire field during the first 1500 meters. Any crew expecting to get the gold from ROM must stop this move before the 1000 meter mark. After 500 meters, CAN should be in 2nd place with a slight lead on the USA. But over the next 1000 meters expect the USA, NED and AUS to close on CAN, with the USA taking over 2nd place by the 1500 and NED just a quarter length behind CAN at that point. In the last 500 meters, the USA has to try to close the remaining 3/4ths length gap on ROM to get the gold without blowing the silver medal to either NED or AUS, who are also expected to close on ROM in that last 500. In the end, look for ROM to take gold, USA silver, NED bronze and CAN, AUS and GER to follow.
