Men's Single Scull - Final

Note: We do not have FISA lane assignments yet for this final, but have placed crews by pairs according to which were the winners, which were 2nd and which were 3rd into lanes 3/4, 2/5 or 1/6. We will not change these assignments even when the FISA lanes are published, because it does not affect our predictions at all.
Pre-race Analysis: Perhaps the best place to take a picture of all of these scullers in action will be at the first 500 meter mark, where they should all be overlapped, each sizing up their next moves against the others. Expect CZE and NZL to assert themselves in the 2nd 500 and try to move on SUI. Since NZL had a comfortable lead in the last 1000 of his semi-final race, SUI might be advised not to let NZL take the predicted lead over him in the 2nd 500, but rather to do what is reasonably necessary to be well overlapped on NZL with 500 meters to go. Despite the race report which follows, which shows NZL dropping back to 4th position at the finish, our call is SUI for gold, NZL silver and CZE bronze. However, if CZE burns out trying to stay with or hold off NZL and SUI, then expect CAN to take the bronze away from him.
